Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Concert Experience

This is a Jimmy Buffett song that he had preformed live this past summer. It sort of wraps up the whole experience of being a fan. Minus a few crazies in grass skirts (myself included) it can also be comparable to a dead show i rekon. Plus it mentions deadheads.

Here we are
Here we are
Here we are
Here we are

Who would have thought this game, this flame would still be burning?
Who would have guessed that all these blenders would still be churning?
Not even we, on our bended knees could have ever blessed it.
Not even I, with my head in the sky could have ever guessed it, but
Here we are, for a family reunion, costume barbeque.
All the black sheep, family outcasts and a freak or two.

No, the hat tricks and the gold bricks still don’t have us down.
Still a party for the hearty when we come to town.
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say.
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave, and
Here we are, we’re the offbeat Uncle Fred’s who spill their wine on you.
And the in your face Aunt Rachel’s with an attitude.
All the ones that use your bathroom then eat all your food.
We’re the dreamy Deadheads who just like us and Dave Matthews.

Here we are, maybe it’s because in spite of all the work we do,
It’s the child in us we really value
Here we are, with our fins up and our feathers flashing
Here we are, with our coconut shell brassieres chafing

[crowd sings] HERE WE ARE

Here we are
Here we are
Here we are……

I too have seen Buffett many times. I have cut back in my touring because much like the dead, his scene has gotten way out of control. You know it's bad when supposed laid back folks in So cal start making a mess and trashing a complex. I took my 3 year old year and while he had a great time, We had to get there early, run across the parking lot ducking empty wild turkey bottles that were being thrown and hang out inside for 2 hrs. Shame on me for bringing my son, but I was hoping that it might have gotten more tame in recent years. I now have sirius and can listen to all his shows in the comfort of my home.

In my experiences a Buffet show was the closest thing to a dead party - the parrot heads are definately as crazy as we are - musically I would have to say a Clapton show came closest.

I have been to at least 1 Buffett show each year for the past 15 years. There is noting like getting up around 8 am and getting dressed up and heading to the parking lot to just hang out...play some games, drink A LOT, and just groove to some fun tunes. It truly is a day where you can leave reality behind and send your cares and worries packing!
